School Student Sends PTA a List of 780,000 Adult Websites to Get Them Blocked

PTA ban adult websites thumb School Student Sends PTA a List of 780,000 Adult Websites to Get Them BlockedGhazi Muhammad Abdullah, a fifteen year old school boy, has sent a list of 780,000 adult websites which he thinks should be blocked in accordance with Supreme Court’s orders but are still accessible to general internet users in Pakistan. Abdullah told me that he has sent this list to PTA only because authority had asked him for a list of adult websites. He quotes an authority letter sent to him by Director General, Law and Regulations, as saying:
If there is any specific website that you wish to bring into the knowledge of PTA, it is requested that PTA may be informed of the same accordingly for further necessary action at our end.
Earlier, Abdullah had written letters to PTA, Ministry of Information Technology and Chief Justice of Pakistan to get adult websites blocked in Pakistan. After his repeated requests, and hack attempts on PTA and Supreme Court website PTA decided in principle to ban adult websites in Pakistan and issued directive for ISPs to block access to adult websites.
It was recently revealed that Pakistan ISPs have blocked 13,000 adult websites, while there are more still accessible, according to Abdullah.
Without detailing the criteria or selection process of adult websites, Abdullah, in an email, told me that he prepared this list of 780,000 adult websites with help of friends having expertise in computers. He wished not to disclose their names.
It merits mentioning here that Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan is willing to block access to any number of websites, though they have concerns regarding the overhead involved in process. This is why they are advocating proposed national URL filtering system.

iPads made by Pakistan Air Force

Mohammad Imran holds a Pakistani-made PACPad computer tablet at his electronics store in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Picture: AP

Rawalpindi – Inside a high-security air force complex that builds jet fighters and weapons systems, Pakistan’s military is working on the latest addition to its sprawling commercial empire: a homegrown version of the iPad.

It’s a venture that bundles together Pakistani engineering and Chinese hardware, and shines a light on the military’s controversial foothold in the consumer market. Supporters say it will boost the economy as well as a troubled nation’s self-esteem.
It all comes together at an air force base in Kamra in northern Pakistan, where avionics engineers – when they’re not working on defence projects – assemble the PACPAD 1.
“The original is the iPad, the copy is the PACPAD,” said Mohammad Imran, who stocks the product at his small computer and mobile phone shop in a mall in Rawalpindi, a city not far from Kamra and the home of the Pakistani army.

Warid Restarts SMS Delivery Reports [for Free]

image001 thumb Warid Restarts SMS Delivery Reports [for Free]Warid customers reported last Wednesday that they have been receiving delivery reports for SMS messages, a feature that was previously switched-off. However, company didn’t confirm us then about the service or any of its associated charges.
But today, we have got this confirmation that Warid is restarting SMS delivery reports for it’s customers and that too for free (at least for now).
It won’t be out of place to mention that SMS delivery reports offer users an instant notification of the SMS message being delivered to the recipient, adding reliability and dependability in communication.
SMS delivery reports were once free for all operators. However, all of them stopped offering the service back in 2009 in order to balance the load on network.
Currently almost all operators offer SMS delivery reports to their customers as a paid service.
How to subscribe to SMS Delivery Reports?

The SMS Delivery Report Service is available to all subscribers by default. However, the subscriber needs to ensure that they have this feature enabled in their mobile handset.

Price:
The service is currently being promoted free-of-cost, but we know for a fact that service will be charged in future.

Pakistan Imported Rs. 45 Billion Worth Handsets in 2010-11

m3 thumb Pakistan Imported Rs. 45 Billion Worth Handsets in 2010 11Handset import bill of various brands, prices and features has been registered at Rs. 44.69 billion in the outgoing financial year (2010-11), up from Rs 26.44 billion import bill recorded during the same period previous year, said Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) in its latest stats.
FBS report said that the handsets sales and its imports surged substantially depicting the tremendous growth of 70 percent in the closing fiscal year 2010-11 compared with previous year.
The average monthly expense of handsets reached Rs 3.72 billion in FY 11 versus Rs 2.2 billion monthly import bill recorded in FY 10.
Analysts said the handsets growth in sales and imports is natural as the local demand has been growing side by side with increasing SIMs number of different operators. In addition, high priced smartphones are significantly contributing towards the overall value of the import bill.
Customers purchase gadgets with emerging trends, style and technology of the brands. They replace their handsets normally in one to two years depending on brands – whether it is Chinese or others.
Besides, demand and sales of handsets increase coupled by the snatched/theft cases and dysfunctional of gadgets in the local market.
Markets dealers said that sales of handsets have increased more than one million units per month, which stood almost half in the last fiscal year. The sales have picked up at accelerated pace with increasing demand in the local markets, particularly in the rural areas in addition to sales growth in big cities.
More than 80 percent of the handsets imports are carried out from China including Chinese brands and renowned brands. However, Chinese-made handsets gained lion share in the local markets owing to lower prices amid multiple features.

Fake Twitter Accounts of Hina Rabbani Khar Go Up

With the rise in popularity of twitter, came people who sought to take advantage of it. Celebrities like singers, actors and political personalities are among the most followed people on twitter.
So naturally they’re the first target of those who fake their profiles. Consequently, there have been thousands of cases in which celebrities have had to publicly disown fake profiles because they were spewing out fake information and what not.
An interestingly, in many cases, the fake profiles have more followers than the real celebrity profile. Naturally, confusion reigned and Twitter was forced to make a move after it was sued in the US over tweets made from a fake account. Twitter responded by rolling out a feature called “Verified Accounts” which adds a small blue tick mark next to the profile name and tells you that this person is really who they say they are.
This has gone some way into curbing the problem but many people are still duped into following fake profiles. Some people even follow these accounts because most of them tend to be quite entertaining in the stuff they share. However I’m not sure if I were be laughing if my account was faked.
Hina Rabbani Khar is latest in the list:
Nevertheless joining the list of people who have had fake profiles created for them is our foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar. She has been the talking point for a while in light of her recent visit to India.
